What does it really mean to walk alongside someone in their faith? This message digs into one of the most challenging and rewarding aspects of Christian community: genuine, life-on-life mentoring. Drawing from 1 Thessalonians 2, we explore Paul's radical approach to discipleship, where he offered the Thessalonians not just the gospel but his very own life. There is a striking difference between knowing someone's name and knowing someone's life, and most of us are far more comfortable staying on the surface. We tend to show our best selves on Sunday morning, keeping others at a comfortable distance. But biblical mentoring calls us past that comfortable distance and into something far more vulnerable and transformative. The nursing mother and father imagery Paul uses reminds us that discipleship is not transactional. It is relational, tender, and deeply personal. People are not projects to complete or boxes to check on a discipleship list. They are image-bearers we are called to genuinely love. When we begin to see mentoring through that lens, everything changes.
