The Starting Point: Why Do I Need To Be Saved?

Jan 18, 2026

This message confronts us with a truth we often avoid: we are born into sin, spiritually dead, and utterly incapable of saving ourselves. Drawing from Ephesians 2:1-9, we're walked through the sobering reality of our condition before God intervenes. We exist in spiritual death, walking in disobedience influenced by the world, Satan, and our own fallen nature. We are depraved—unable to meet God's holy standards—and doomed to face His righteous wrath. Yet the most powerful word in Scripture interrupts this grim diagnosis: 'But God.' This conjunction changes everything. While we were dead in our trespasses, God, rich in mercy and overflowing with grace, loved us, made us alive in Christ, exalted us to heavenly places, and keeps us for eternity. This isn't a message about self-improvement or moral effort; it's about resurrection. We don't need resuscitation—we need God to raise us from the dead. The starting point of connecting with God requires acknowledging our complete disconnect through sin and accepting that salvation is entirely His work, not ours. This is where our faith journey must begin: recognizing we cannot save ourselves and crying out for the forgiveness only God can provide.
