Why Some See And Others Don't
We are confronted with one of Christianity's most profound mysteries: why do some hearts embrace the gospel while others remain unmoved? Through Mark chapters 3 and 4, we discover that the kingdom of God operates according to divine sovereignty, yet we remain fully responsible for our response to His word. The parable of the soils reveals a sobering truth—the seed never changes, the sower never changes, but the condition of our hearts determines everything. Some hearts are hardened paths where Satan immediately snatches away truth. Others are rocky ground, showing initial excitement but lacking depth for perseverance. Still others are thorny soil, where worldly concerns and the deceitfulness of riches choke out spiritual life. But the good soil—prepared by God's grace—bears fruit thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold. This isn't about moral improvement; it's about disciples making disciples. We must ask ourselves honestly: which soil describes our heart today? Are we bearing the fruit of genuine conversion, actively sharing our faith and investing in others? The comforting truth is that we cannot transform soil—only God can. Our responsibility is faithful sowing; God handles the saving. This removes all pressure and fills us with purpose as we scatter the seed of the gospel.
