5-Day Devotional (8/3/2025-8/9/2025)
Day 1: Grace Alone
Reading: Ephesians 2:1-10
Devotional: Today we reflect on the incredible truth that salvation comes through grace alone. Just as the Jerusalem Council affirmed, our redemption is not based on our own efforts or adherence to religious laws, but solely on God's unmerited favor through Christ. As you read Ephesians 2, consider the depth of God's love that reached out to us "when we were dead in our transgressions" (v.5). How does this grace transform your view of yourself and others? Take a moment to thank God for His grace and consider how you can extend that same grace to those around you today.
Day 2: Faith in Christ Alone
Reading: Galatians 2:15-21
Devotional: The sufficiency of faith in Christ was a pivotal issue in the early church, and it remains crucial for us today. As you read Paul's words to the Galatians, reflect on what it means to be "justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law" (v.16). How might you be tempted to add to Christ's work for your salvation? Remember, just as a chair supports us without our effort, Christ's sacrifice is completely sufficient. Today, consciously rest in Christ's finished work, letting go of any self-reliance in your spiritual walk.
Day 3: Unity in the Body of Christ
Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:12-27
Devotional: The Jerusalem Council demonstrated the importance of unity in the body of Christ, even amidst differing opinions. As you read about the body of Christ in 1 Corinthians, consider how your local church reflects this diversity and interdependence. How can you contribute to the unity of your faith community? Remember James' wisdom about not causing others to stumble. Today, look for ways to build up and encourage your fellow believers, prioritizing the health of the whole body over personal preferences.
Day 4: Freedom and Responsibility in Christ
Reading: Galatians 5:1-15
Devotional: Our freedom in Christ is a precious gift, but as the Jerusalem Council showed, it comes with responsibility. As you read Galatians 5, reflect on what it means to "use your freedom to serve one another in love" (v.13). How can you balance your personal freedom with sensitivity to others' spiritual journeys? Consider areas where you might need to limit your freedom for the sake of others, or where you might need to extend grace to those whose convictions differ from yours. Today, ask God for wisdom to use your freedom in ways that honor Him and build up His church.
Day 5: The Transforming Power of the Gospel
Reading: Romans 12:1-2
Devotional: The Jerusalem Council affirmed that faith in Christ alone is sufficient for salvation, but this faith inevitably leads to transformation. As you read Romans 12:1-2, consider how the gospel has changed your life. What does it mean to offer your body as a "living sacrifice"? How are you being "transformed by the renewing of your mind"? Today, identify one area of your life where you need God's transforming power. Surrender it to Him, and ask for His Spirit to work in you, making you more like Christ. Remember, this transformation is not about earning salvation, but about living out the new life we've been given in Christ.
