5 Day-Devotional (7/27/2025-8/2/2025)

Day 1: Courage in the Face of Opposition
Reading: Acts 14:1-7

Devotional: Paul and Barnabas faced fierce opposition in Iconium, yet they "remained for a long time, speaking boldly for the Lord" (Acts 14:3). Their courage wasn't rooted in their own strength, but in God's power working through them. When we face challenges in sharing our faith or living out our convictions, we can draw strength from the same source. God's grace empowers us to stand firm, even when the world pushes back. Today, reflect on a situation where you feel called to be bolder for Christ. Ask God for the courage to speak and act with conviction, trusting that He will work through your faithfulness.

Day 2: Resisting Idolatry
Reading: Acts 14:8-18

Devotional: In Lystra, Paul and Barnabas were mistaken for gods and had to forcefully reject the worship offered to them. This reminds us how easily our hearts can misplace devotion, elevating created things above the Creator. In our culture, we may not bow to statues, but we often idolize success, comfort, or human wisdom. Examine your heart today. What competes for the devotion that belongs to God alone? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any "idols" in your life and commit to redirecting that devotion to the one true God.

Day 3: Perseverance Through Suffering
Reading: Acts 14:19-23; 2 Corinthians 4:7-12

Devotional: Paul's stoning in Lystra and subsequent resilience demonstrate extraordinary perseverance. Despite intense physical and emotional trauma, he rose and continued his mission. This echoes Paul's later words in 2 Corinthians about carrying the death of Jesus so that His life may be revealed. Our sufferings, when endured with faith, can become powerful testimonies to God's sustaining grace. Reflect on a difficult season you've experienced or are currently facing. How might God be using this to display His power and draw others to Himself? Ask for the strength to persevere and the wisdom to see your trials through the lens of God's greater purpose.

Day 4: Building Up the Church
Reading: Acts 14:21-23; Ephesians 4:11-16

Devotional: Paul and Barnabas didn't just preach and move on; they returned to the cities they'd visited to strengthen believers and appoint leaders. This reminds us that discipleship and church leadership are crucial for the gospel's ongoing impact. The church isn't meant to be a collection of isolated believers, but a united body growing together in Christ. Consider your role in building up your local church. How can you contribute to the spiritual growth of others? Whether through formal leadership or simple acts of encouragement, ask God to show you how you can strengthen His body today.

Day 5: The True Jesus vs. Cultural Christianity
Reading: Matthew 16:24-26; Galatians 1:6-10

Devotional: The sermon warned against embracing a "little Jesus" that doesn't challenge us to change. The real Jesus of the Bible often calls us out of our comfort zones, asking us to take up our cross and follow Him. This can mean making difficult choices that go against cultural norms or personal desires. Reflect on areas where you might be settling for a "comfortable Christianity" rather than fully embracing Jesus' radical call. Ask God to give you a deeper hunger for the true Christ of Scripture and the courage to follow Him, even when it's costly. Commit to aligning your life more fully with His teachings, trusting that His way leads to true fulfillment and eternal life.
